Bhumi Pujan is a sacred Hindu ritual performed before starting the construction of a new house, temple, office, or any building. In Hinduism, the Earth is considered a divine mother, often referred to as Bhumi Devi. Bhumi Pujan is performed to seek her blessings and to ask permission before disturbing the land for construction. This ritual is believed to bring prosperity, success, and peace to the people who will live or work in that place.
The ceremony is usually performed on an auspicious date and time determined according to Vedic Astrology. A knowledgeable priest conducts the rituals by chanting Vedic mantras and offering flowers, fruits, sweets, turmeric, rice, and holy water to the Earth. The puja purifies the land and removes any negative energies that may exist at the construction site.
During Bhumi Pujan, prayers are also offered to deities such as Lord Ganesha, who is known as the remover of obstacles, so that the construction process begins smoothly and successfully.
